Description

This Bread Bowl Spaghetti recipe offers a deliciously comforting twist on classic spaghetti by serving it in warm, garlicky bread bowls filled with seasoned ground beef spaghetti and melted mozzarella cheese. Perfect for a cozy family dinner or gathering, these individual servings combine tender spaghetti noodles simmered in rich tomato sauce with a crispy, buttery bread exterior.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread Bowls

  • 6 round (5-6 inches) rolls, such as white kaiser rolls

Spaghetti

  • 4 ounces (¼ of a 16-ounce box) spaghetti noodles, cooked according to package directions
  • 24 ounces spaghetti sauce
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded and divided

Garlic Butter

  • 1 cup (2 sticks or 227g) butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, minced

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F and line a sheet pan with parchment paper for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook Spaghetti and Prepare Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain any excess fat if needed. Add the spaghetti sauce, season with salt and pepper to taste, then reduce heat to low and let simmer for 10 minutes to meld flavors.
  3. Combine Noodles and Sauce: Add the cooked spaghetti noodles to the sauce mixture, tossing well to ensure all noodles are coated. Cover and keep warm while preparing the bread bowls.
  4. Make Garlic Butter: In a medium bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, kosher salt, and minced parsley. Stir thoroughly to incorporate all ingredients evenly.
  5. Prepare Bread Bowls: Carefully cut the top centers out of each roll, leaving the base attached to create a bowl. Place the hollowed rolls on the prepared sheet pan.
  6. Apply Garlic Butter: Spoon and brush 2-3 tablespoons of the garlic butter mixture evenly inside and on the outside of each roll to infuse flavor and promote browning.
  7. Fill Bread Bowls: Inside each roll, layer 1 tablespoon of shredded mozzarella cheese, then fill with about ½ cup of the spaghetti mixture, and top with another tablespoon of mozzarella cheese for melty goodness.
  8. Bake: Place the filled bread bowls in the oven and bake for 7-10 minutes or until the bread turns golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven, sprinkle with additional minced parsley for a fresh finishing touch, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Be sure not to cut all the way through the rolls when hollowing them out to keep the filling contained.
  • The garlic butter can be prepared ahead and stored in the fridge; rewarm before applying.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with plant-based meat or sautéed vegetables.
  • If you desire extra cheesy bread bowls, add more mozzarella or sprinkle Parmesan on top before baking.
  • Leftover spaghetti can be stored separately and reheated before filling the bread bowls.
