Description

This Garlic Butter Salmon Steak recipe is a simple yet elegant dish perfect for Easter or any special occasion. The salmon steaks are seared to perfection in a hot skillet and topped with a flavorful butter mixture infused with garlic and fresh herbs. Served with lemon wedges, this recipe highlights the rich taste of salmon complemented by aromatic butter, making it a delightful and quick-to-make meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Compound Butter

  • 3 tablespoons salted butter, softened
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (chives and parsley), chopped
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

For the Salmon

  • 3 salmon steaks, 1-inch thick each
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to season
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare Compound Butter: In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, fresh herbs, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and set aside to allow flavors to meld.
  2. Dry and Season Salmon: Pat the salmon steaks dry thoroughly with paper towels to remove moisture. Season both sides generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  3. Heat Skillet: Place a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Allow the oil to heat until hot but not smoking.
  4. Sear Salmon: Place the salmon steaks in the hot skillet and sear undisturbed for 3-5 minutes on the first side. Carefully flip each steak once, then sear for another 3-5 minutes depending on thickness.
  5. Add Butter and Baste: After flipping, add the prepared garlic herb butter to the skillet. Spoon the melted butter continuously over the salmon as it finishes cooking, infusing it with rich flavor.
  6. Check Doneness and Serve: The salmon is done when the center becomes opaque and flakes easily with a fork. Remove from heat and serve with fresh lemon wedges to squeeze over the fish for brightness.

Notes

  • Bringing the butter to room temperature makes it easier to mix with the garlic and herbs.
  • Patting the salmon dry removes excess moisture, ensuring a better sear.
  • Choose salmon steaks that are uniform in size and thickness for even cooking.
  • Ensure the oil is hot before adding the salmon to achieve a perfect crust without sticking.
