Ingredients
Scale
Vegetables
- 2 cups green bell pepper, medium dice
- 1 cup onion, medium dice
- 1 cup portobello mushrooms, diced
Meat
- 1 pound ground beef
Pasta
- 2 cups uncooked macaroni noodles
Cheese and Dairy
- 8 ounces provolone cheese, grated
- 8 ounces cream cheese, cubed
- 2 cups milk, 2% or whole
- 2 tablespoons butter
Seasonings
- 2 teaspoons salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Sauté Vegetables: Add the butter to a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once melted, add the green bell pepper, onion, and mushrooms, and cook for 4-5 minutes until softened.
- Cook Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet with the vegetables and cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes. Drain the grease from the skillet, rinse the ground beef to reduce excess fat, then set it aside.
- Cook Macaroni: While the veggies and beef are cooking, bring a large pot of water to a boil on the stove. Add the macaroni noodles and cook according to the package directions. Drain the noodles and return them to the pot on the stove over medium heat.
- Prepare Cheese Sauce: To the pot with the drained macaroni, add the grated provolone cheese, cubed cream cheese, milk, salt, and pepper. Stir constantly as the cheeses melt, creating a smooth and creamy sauce.
- Combine Ingredients: Once the cheese sauce is smooth, add the cooked beef and sautéed vegetables to the pot. Stir everything thoroughly to combine all flavors.
- Serve: Serve the Philly Cheesesteak Mac and Cheese immediately, optionally topping with diced green onions for added freshness and flavor.
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef with thinly sliced ribeye for a more authentic Philly cheesesteak experience.
- For a spicier version, add a dash of crushed red pepper flakes when cooking the vegetables.
- Using whole milk will make the sauce richer; 2% milk is a lighter alternative.
- Make sure to rinse the ground beef to reduce grease and excess fat for a cleaner taste.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated on the stove or microwave.
