Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1/2 medium onion, sliced
- 1 lb thin beef slices (shabu shabu style)
- 1 cup chopped sour kimchi (see note below)
- 4 slices meltable cheese (Pepper Jack, Colby, or Provolone)
- 1 green chili, sliced (optional)
- 1 green onion, chopped (optional)
- 4 hoagie rolls or club rolls
- 4 pieces romaine lettuce (optional)
Sauce Ingredients
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tsp Korean chili flakes (gochugaru) (optional)
- 1–2 tsp brown sugar
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, Korean chili flakes (if using), brown sugar, sesame oil, and black pepper. Mix well and set aside to let the flavors meld.
- Cook onions and beef: Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced onions and cook until they become softened and slightly caramelized, about 4-5 minutes. Then add the thinly sliced beef and stir-fry until the beef is fully browned and cooked through.
- Add kimchi and sauce: Stir in the chopped sour kimchi and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through and blend flavors. Add sliced green chili (if using) and pour the prepared sauce over the mixture. Continue cooking until everything is heated through and well combined.
- Assemble the cheesesteak: Slice your hoagie rolls in half. Optionally, toast them on a griddle for added warmth and flavor. Place a piece of romaine lettuce inside each roll. Spoon a generous portion of the bulgogi steak mixture onto the lettuce. Top with slices of your preferred meltable cheese. The heat from the filling will gently melt the cheese.
- Serve immediately: Serve the sandwiches hot, optionally garnished with chopped green onions for a fresh bite. Enjoy your Philly Style Bulgogi Cheesesteak warm and fresh.
Notes
- Toasting the rolls before assembly enhances the sandwich by making it warm and more flavorful.
- If you do not prefer kimchi, you can omit it or substitute with strips of bell pepper for a milder flavor.
- Green chili and green onion are optional garnishes; add according to your spice preference.
