Description
A light and refreshing appetizer featuring thin cucumber strips rolled with creamy mashed avocado and savory smoked salmon, topped with black sesame seeds for a delightful crunch and burst of flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
Cucumber
- 1 large English cucumber
Filling
- 3 ounces smoked salmon, sliced into bite-sized strips
- 1 ripe avocado, mashed
Seasoning & Garnish
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Black sesame seeds, for topping
Instructions
- Prepare the Cucumber: Thoroughly rinse the cucumber and slice off both ends. Using a vegetable peeler, carefully slice the cucumber into long, thin strips. When you reach the seedy middle section, rotate the cucumber and continue slicing on the other side to get about 5-6 strips per side.
- Slice the Smoked Salmon: Cut the smoked salmon into bite-sized strips, then stack them neatly on top of each other for easy layering.
- Dry the Cucumber Strips: Using a paper towel or parchment paper, gently pat the cucumber strips dry to remove excess moisture. This step will help prevent sogginess in the rolls.
- Assemble the Rolls: Spread the mashed avocado along one edge of each cucumber strip, then layer the salmon strips on top of the avocado. Carefully roll the cucumber strips over themselves, keeping the roll tight. Secure with a toothpick if necessary.
- Slice and Season: Cut the rolled cucumber into bite-sized pieces. Season each piece lightly with salt and black pepper, then sprinkle black sesame seeds over the top for a nutty crunch.
- Serve: Arrange the cucumber rolls on a serving plate and enjoy immediately for the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- Use a ripe yet firm avocado to ensure a creamy texture that holds well in the roll.
- Patting the cucumber strips dry is crucial to prevent watery rolls.
- For added flavor, consider adding a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to the avocado mash.
- These rolls are best eaten fresh and not stored for long periods to maintain crispness.
- To keep the avocado fresh during preparation, you can sprinkle a little lemon juice over it to prevent browning.
